A Shares Portfolio Summary Worksheet
Allows portfolio performance monitoring!

My shares portfolio is managed in summary form using a Portfolio Summary Worksheet which is available as part of the IRR Calculations Worksheets. Contact me directly to request a free copy of the worksheets.

It would be best to print out the Portfolio Summary Worksheet example, or open up the worksheet, in order to follow this discussion.

This worksheet allows me to undertake portfolio performance monitoring by updating share prices weekly so that the total share portfolio dollar value can be calculated. It is also used to update the current date.

The current share prices in this spreadsheet and the current date are linked to the share-price cells and current-date cells in each of the Share A, Share B and Share C worksheets containing the individual share information.

The Portfolio Summary Worksheet records the balance of the investment account together with any (negative) balance of the portfolio loans account when calculating the total share portfolio value.

In this fictitious example it s indicated that $5,000 of a margin loan line of credit of $20,000 has been used to purchase some of the shares.

The Portfolio Summary Worksheet also calculates in column E the percentage contribution of each share and the cash balance in the investment account to the overall portfolio in order that the weighting of each share, as well as the weighting of the cash available, is evident.

The net portfolio value represents the equity that the investor has contributed to the portfolio. It equals the total portfolio value minus the portion of the margin loan currently used.

The number of shares for each share holding listed in the Portfolio Summary worksheet is obtained by linking cells B5, B7 and B9 in the Portfolio Summary worksheet to the cell containing the total shares in each of the share worksheet holdings using the formula: ='Share A'!C26 etc ...

Current share prices are entered directly into the Portfolio Summary and are shared by each of the Share worksheets. The current market values for each share are obtained by multiplying the number of shares by the current share price using the formula: =B5*C5 etc ...

The current date is entered directly into the Portfolio Summary Worksheet in cell D17 and shared with each of the Share worksheets.

My online stock broker also provides a facility to maintain an online investment portfolio which I use to monitor stock prices for the portfolio as well as being able to view the current profit or loss for each share holding based on current stock prices.

Maintaining a shares portfolio financial portfolio management system in the form of record keeping worksheets is an important aspect of my portfolio performance monitoring.

Your task is to replace the fictitious share data in this worksheet with the information relating your share holdings.
